Chocolate Fountain SalespresentsChocolate Fountains in the News "Chocolate lovers go with the flow" from the Peoria Journal Star posted on September 24, 2004 Janeen Zimmerman and Juanita Barron have been friends for years, so naturally when they found a tasty business opportunity they pooled their resources and dived right in together. The women are the proud owners of a unique kind of fountain that is making a splash at weddings and corporate parties. But this fountain doesn't flow with your normal H2O. When they see the fountain for the first time, many people don't realize what it is, Barron said. "It's a new thing, so it's really neat to see their reaction to it," Barron said. "Sometimes they're a little timid or sometimes they think it's solid chocolate." Once they see that it's flowing, most people are anxious to try dipping strawberries, ladyfinger cookies, angel food cake or whatever foods are available. It becomes a conversation piece at every function they've catered, Barron said. "It's kind of like an ice sculpture in that way. But this is much better. You can eat it," Barron said. The women first got the idea for the fountain earlier this spring when they were co-chairing a fund-raising event for their church in Washington. They wanted to make the fund-raising auction a special, upscale event and needed a unique attention-grabber. "We heard about one from a friend who saw one in another state, so we started calling around to find one we could rent. Nobody around here had them or had even heard of them," Zimmerman said. "Even the caterers around here said they hadn't seen them anywhere but on TV." Zimmerman and Barron started hunting the Internet and finally found a dealership in Pennsylvania. After some thought, the women plunked down $4,000 to buy a Sephra chocolate fountain. The women christened their business Chocolate Falls by J&J. They still offer the fountain free of charge to some carefully selected not-for-profit events, but the majority of their events are weddings or corporate parties. Some people balk at the cost, which is $395 for two and a half hours of use, but the fountain is catching on, the women said. The cost includes at least one attendant who stays with the fountain all night to answer any questions and make sure that it is continuously filled and running properly, 25 pounds of chocolate and setup to complete the theme of the event. The women will also provide the dipping items for an additional cost.
